Biography

Award-winning actress Doris Bumpus, a Michigan native, grew up singing in the church.  Singing her first solo at the age of five, music became the language that spoke to her heart.  Her premier CD, He Will Take Care of You, released in February 2011. Although, Doris spent most of her life singing in church she dreamed of becoming an actress.  She participated her high school productions and sung background with local community groups so she knew she was created to sing but her true passion was acting.

In 2011, Doris made her acting debut, with Ivory Arts Inc. receiving two Arty awards for “Best Lead Actress” as Dorothy in the stage play, The Wiz; and as Effie White in the musical Dreamgirls. One of the highlights of Doris acting career was landing the role of Shug Avery in the musical The Color Purple, with the Stanford University Drama Department. She has participated in several theatre productions along with film projects and is currently working on a new album.

Doris and husband began a new venture in 2018 by forming their production company, D’Sunflower Productions. Their first production was “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill” which had a very successful run at the East Bay Center of the Performing Arts, Richmond Ca.; presenting 4 shows with 2 sold out performances.

In 2019 D’Sunflowers Productions will partner with Boxcar Theater located in San Francisco Ca, to run a Solo Series from February 17th thru June 16th, 2019. Visit Boxcartheatre.org for details.

Doris and her husband, Joe reside in Hercules California; they have three children: Joey Jr, Britney, and Tremiyya.

As she embarks upon new ventures in this journey, she credits God with all glory, praise, and honor.
